Open Letter: What Do Mothers Know And Do About Software?

Are there any mothers' group or similar associations where the following themes are actively discussed? If yes, which solutions are proposed and which actions are taken?

  • awareness of the real impact of the software required in some schools on equal opportunities, family budgets and pollution
  • how to check, just like already happens with school meals, if the computer training offered by a school is balanced and really useful
  • when and why file sharing is both legal and highly educational
  • which (personal or for school) multimedia projects a child can legally create and publish online without incurring in legal troubles
  • how to make sure that children do not have access to the websites that their parents (not the government or some unknown organization) consider inappropriate
  • correct usage of computers at school and at home

We are really interested in hearing from parents their first hand opinions and experiences in this field (with all the due warrantees on privacy, of course). You are welcome to forward this request to any parents or teachers organization and to everybody else who may be interested.

Thank you in advance for any feedback,

Marco Fioretti
