High school teacher in Texas working on the perfect Linux setup for her schoolCindy Livengood, a high school teacher in Texas, recently found herself in charge of database management in her school. Several teachers in the same situation simply ask the school to buy some expensive program, just because "that's what the others are doing" or, whatever software they choose, simply don't bother to learn what is the best way to configure and use it. Not Cindy. She has decided, even if she didn't have any prior experience with Linux, to learn how to run it because it seemed the more flexible, robust and cost effective solution to manage all the databases of hers and all other schools of her district even if it required a bigger learning effort, initially, from her side. As a base platform she choose Ubuntu server edition and one of the first things she said is "what is amazing is how fast the computer works without Windows and the barrage of admin-owned spy-ware" (and this is happening on an old computer which the school lab had dismissed because too slow!).
